Swiss film “Das Fraulein” wins at Sarajevo

Director Andrea Staka, who took home the Golden Leopard in Locarno two weeks ago, also won the main prize for her film “Das Fraulein” (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) at the 12th Sarajevo Film Festival, which ended on August 26th, 2006. In addition to the “Golden Heart” award for best film, which comes with a prize sum of 25,000 Euro, the main actress of the movie, Marija Skaricic, won the award for Best Actress, with a prize sum of 2,500 Euro. Having celebrity status in Bosnia, the actress already won this award two years ago. After having started its festival tour with highest awards in Locarno and Sarajevo, “Das Fraulein” will be shown at the Pusan International Film Festival (Korea), at the Seville Film Festival (Spain), and at the Hof Film Festival (Germany).
“Das Fraulein” is the first long feature film by Andrea Staka, who lives in Zurich and New York. A graduate from the School of Art and Design Zurich, the director already attracted attention with her short thesis film “Hotel Belgrad”. Her documentary film “Yugodivas” (2000), a meeting of women artists from Former Yugoslavia in New York, won several festival awards. Andrea Staka and actress Marija Skaricic will be in attendance for the award ceremony in Sarajevo on Saturday night, along with producer Susann Rüdlinger.
