Swiss short film at Zinebi Festival in Bilbao

The 20-minute short film “Ja ja, nein nein” by directors Peter Volkart and Ulrich Schaffner is among the 73 films in competition the renowned “Zinebi” International Festival of Documentary and Short Film in Bilbao.

The 20-minute short film “Ja ja, nein nein” (Yea yea, nay nay) by directors Peter Volkart and Ulrich Schaffner (production: Unico Film, Zurich) is among the 73 films in competition the renowned “Zinebi” International Festival of Documentary and Short Film in Bilbao (November 22-27, 2010). This year marks the 52nd edition of the festival in the Basque region.

In the form of a fully reconstructed documentary film, "Ja ja, nein nein" (Yea yea, nay nay) portrays the story of a unique arts funding scheme in the canton of Aargau in the 1960s. The film interweaves archive material, authentic Super 8 footage and found footage and has already been screened at ten festivals since it celebrated its premiere at the Solothurn Film Festival last year in January. It will also be screened this month at the 26th Interfilm International Short Film Festival in Berlin (November 16-21).

The film "Ja ja, nein nein" (Yea yea, nay nay) is in the running for the festival's Grand Prize. The festival in Bilbao is devoted entirely to short and documentary film productions. It one of the oldest festivals in Spain and Europe and accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as one of the five festivals specialised in short and documentary film productions. Moreover, the Zinebi Festival is also accredited by the American Academy, which means that the winning film in Bilbao is automatically in the running for an Oscar nomination in the category of Live Action Short Film.
