Vice-consul suisse à Budapest, le diplomate appenzellois Carl Lutz a sauvé dix mille juifs hongrois d’une mort certaine durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Son action humanitaire est considérée comme la plus grande action civile de sauvetage des juifs pendant la guerre. Agnes Hirschi, sa belle-fille «hongroise», raconte l’histoire incroyable de Carl Lutz sur les lieux mêmes où se sont déroulés les faits à Budapest. Son récit se complète des déclarations de témoins de l’époque, disséminés dans le monde entier et qui ont survécu à la Shoah grâce à l’aide de Carl Lutz.
