Pour l'artiste Jean Odermatt, le Gothard est source et moteur d'une obsession. Le film d'Ywan Schumacher puise dans ces forces pour raconter l'histoire de cette obsession. Depuis sa plus tendre enfance, Odermatt se sent attiré de façon magique par le Gothard et depuis 20 ans il se mesure en tant qu'artiste à cette portion territoriale de patrie. Le film montre Odermatt comme un personnage dans la zone frontière entre les paysages intérieurs et extérieurs, désirant déchiffrer le langage de la Terre et de la Nature.
