L'opéra d'Othmar Schoeck «Penthesilea» doit être joué à l'occasion du Festival de Lucerne en 1999. Pour réaliser ce projet, le chef d'orchestre Mario Venzago met littéralement son existence en jeu. Au cours de la phase de répétitions précédant le concert, Alberto Venzago enregistre, à la manière intimiste sur pellicule noir-blanc, le travail de son frère Mario avec l'orchestre et les chanteurs. Les répétitions se poursuivent pour tous jusqu'à la limite de l'acceptable, les nerfs sont à vif, l'entreprise oscille entre l'ivresse créatrice et l'épuisement.
