Autrefois, dans les Alpes, William, un vieux chasseur fatigué, vit seul tel un ermite. Il recueille un enfant qui cherche à s’abriter pour la nuit. L’enfant découvre une vieille arbalète cachée dans le chalet. Auprès du feu, William conte son histoire à l'enfant. Il dit être Guillaume Tell. Dans la brume du soir, le mal-être d'un mythe vivant se dévoile.
