Stöffi, un enfant handicapé mental, vit avec sa mère à Einsiedeln où on le considère comme un sympathique original. Lorsque sa mère se retrouve à l’article de la mort, elle se rend compte que Stöffi risque d’être enfermé dans un foyer. Pour préserver son fils d’un tel destin, elle lui révèle, sur son lit de mort, le secret qu’elle avait gardé jusque-là: Zeno – son amour de jeunesse et le propriétaire du restaurant «Schwanen» – est son père. C’est à lui maintenant de s’occuper de Stöffi. Pour ce dernier et Zeno, un long parcours commence car tous deux doivent apprendre à être père et fils. Un drame tout de finesse et de tendresse.
