Zhannat Alshanova

Screenwriter, Director

Born in1987 in Kazakhstan. Works is a screenwriter, director and producer. Her graduation short film End of Season (2018) premiered in the Cinefondation of the Cannes Film Festival, won Most Promising Director Award in Tel-Aviv and Best Cinematography Award in Munich. In 2019 she participated in Bela Tarr’s directing workshop, where she developed and shot a film Paola makes a wish (2019). The film was screened at Locarno Film Festival, POFF shorts and Sundance Film Festival. Her most recent short film History of Civilisation is currently in post-production. Zhannat’s debut feature project Mother Tongue was selected for Asian Project Market 2019 (Busan IFF), where it won ARTE France’s ArteKino International Award. She is a Berlinale Talents alumni.
