Ru Kuwahata is a Japanese animation filmmaker who works in partnership with Max Porter, a filmmaker from the United States. Based in Providence, they are renowned for their distinctive mixed-media storytelling style. They have directed and produced television commercials, music videos, comics, interactive media and four independent films. Their films have been screened at over 900 festivals worldwide, including the Sundance Film Festival, the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, and the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Their latest short film, NEGATIVE SPACE (2017), received Academy and Annie Award nominations and was shortlisted for the César Awards, winning 130 awards.
