Born in 1973 in Lucerne, Switzerland. She graduated in 1998 with a degree in Film from ZHdK (Zürcher Hochschule der Künste). She received numerous awards for HOTEL BELGRAD (1998) and YUGODIVAS (2000). Her first feature film FRAULEIN (2006) won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Festival and the Heart of Sarajevo at the Sarajevo Film Festival, followed by the Swiss Film Award, Best Screenplay in 2007. In 2007 she cofounded Okofilm Productions together with director and producer Thomas Imbach. Her second feature CURE – THE LIFE OF ANOTHER (2014) was awarded at the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis among others. MARE (2020) is Štaka’s third feature film. She is a member of the European Film Academy.
