1906. Hanna ne veut rien d'autre que se libérer de son corset bourgeois. Lorsqu'elle s'enfuit au célèbre Monte Verità, laissant ses filles derrière elle, elle est d'abord réticente à accepter le mode de vie libre de ceux qui cherchent un sens à leur vie. Mais lorsqu'elle commence à photographier les invités, elle se dépasse. Dans sa dévotion à l'art, elle doit se demander: peut-elle retourner dans sa famille sans se renier?
