Margarethe von Trotta
Screenwriter, Director
Born in 1942 in Germany. Director, screenwriter and actress, she is a master of impressive female roles. Initially known as an actress, especially for roles in productions by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Volker Schlöndorff. From the end of the 1970s she stood behind the camera and advanced to become one of the most renowned directors in the Federal Republic. Her best-known films include MARIANNE & JULIANE (1981), I AM THE OTHER WOMAN (2006) and HANNA ARENDT (2012). In 1981 she was the first female filmmaker ever to be awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for MARIANNE & JULIANE.
