In Switzerland, the lovely family home of a bankrupt industrialist is the setting for this comedy (a caustic farce). Livia, a young woman prone to hallucinations, and the sole heir to an immense fortune, declares to her relatives that it is the eve of the most wonderful day of her life. Emil Poinpoirot, a patient at the nearby psychiatric clinic, has been hired to kill her the following day. However, a strange complicity soon binds them and in the place of Livia, nearly all the other members of her family are murdered, in the most peaceful way imaginable. Why do the police not intervene? Following the disaster, Treffle, the loyal butler, resumes his position as Livia’s guardian angel.
