The film “Abrir puertas y ventanas” by Swiss-Argentine director Milagros Mumenthaler was honoured with the “Segundo Premio Coral” for a debut film at the 33rd Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano (December 1-11, 2011). After having won two Golden Leopards in Locarno and the two Grand Prizes at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, the Swiss film production, which was shot in Argentina, stood once again on the winners’ podium, this time in Cuba at the most important festival for Latin American cinema.

The film "Abrir puertas y ventanas" tells the story of three sisters who have lived alone in their parents' home since the death of their grandmother, who had raised them. All three attempt to come to terms with her death in their own manner: Marina concentrates on her studies while looking after the household; Sofia becomes obsessed with her appearance and material goods; and Violeta spends her time between bedroom and sitting room, where she occasionally receives an elderly man.
Since its successful premiere at the film festival in Locarno this past summer, "Abrir puertas y ventanas" has been screened at thirteen other international film festivals, including the prestigious BFI Film Festival in London, the Toronto International Film Festival and the Viennale in Vienna.
