Angers honors Alain Tanner and presents young Swiss filmmakers

The 18th edition of the “Premiers Plan” festival, taking place in Angers, France, from January 20-29, 2006, features an homage to old master of New Swiss Film Alain Tanner who will be in attendance. With its focus on first-time features, the festival is presenting three films by young Swiss directors in its competition section: Among the eight selected European feature film debuts is “Ryna” by Ruxandra Zenide which has already received several awards (Production: Pacific Films/Navarro Films, Geneva). Among the selection of eight short films will be “Terra Incognita” by Peter Volkart (Production: Reck Filmproduktion, Zurich). The documentary-like short film “Haru Ichiban – Spring Storm” by Aya Domenig (Production: Zurich School of Art and Design) will be shown as one of the 28 selected thesis films.
The homage to Alain Tanner receives support from SWISS FILMS and includes his early work such as “Nice Time” (1957), “Charles, Dead or Alive” (1969), “Salamander” (1971), as well as his latest film “Paul s’en va” (2004). On Sunday, January 29, a discussion forum with the 79-year-old Geneva director is taking place. Additional participants are actors Bulle Ogier and Jean-Luc Bideau, Swiss cameraperson Renato Berta who works in France, and Serge Toubiana, director of the Cinémathèque Française.
