Annecy 2004: Swiss Animated Films in Good Form

02.06.2004

The 28th International Animated Film Festival in Annecy, France, taking place from June 7-12, presents five Swiss films of which three are part of the competition. Overall, this is a strong Swiss showing, and especially outstanding are the Studio GDS productions from Carouge near Geneva.
The film “L’homme sans ombre” by Georges Schwizgebel (Production: Studio GDS) – painted directly onto celluloid – will be presented in the international short film competition. This film was shown in Cannes at the International Critics Week and was awarded the “Regards Jeunes” prize. Also participating in the competition section are the classic cartoon “La chanson du pharmacien” by Daniel Suter (Production: Studio GDS), and “Circuit marine” by Isabelle Favez, which received the audience award at the Solothurn Film Festival and the Children’s Film Fest award in Berlin. Favez’ film, which was produced as part of an artist’s residence at the Studio Folimage in Valence, France, combines a variety of animated film techniques (paper drawings, cut-outs and two-dimensional computer animations).

In the “Spéciaux TV” television production section, the film “Un’altra città” by Ticino filmmaker Carlo Ippolito will be shown (Production: TSI). His two- and three-dimensional animations portray the taking of power of a dictator with music by Arnold Schoenberg.

Finally, the section “Panorama” invites the audience to enjoy “Kreuchen and Fleuchen”, a rhythmic ballet of fantasy figures, based on ink drawings by Basel artist Urs Brenner. This film was produced by Natska Film in 2003.
