Award for Swiss documentary film in Marseille

09.07.2008

The Swiss-French co-production “Au loin des villages” by Olivier Zuchuat (production: Prince Film, Jura) was honoured with the “Prix des Médiathèques” at the 19th Festival International du Documentaire in Marseille (July 2-7, 2008). This prize, which is awarded by audio-visual librarians at five major French “mediathèques”, is intended to provide support for the DVD release of the film.
In his documentary film “Au loin des villages”, the director, from the French-speaking region of Switzerland, joins approximately 13,000 members of the Dajo ethnic group who had taken refuge in eastern Chad in 2006 prior to the Darfur conflict. Zuchuat’s 75-minute war film contains no images of war, however. He uses instead the refugees’ accounts of their experiences and children’s drawings to convey and attest to the human tragedy of this conflict.
