Awarding of the Swiss Film Prize 2005

At the awards ceremony of the Swiss Film Prize 2005, “Tout un hiver sans feu” by Greg Zglinski was selected as the winner of “Best Fiction Film” and awarded a sum of sixty thousand Swiss francs. The prize for “Best Documentary Film”, also with a sum of sixty thousand Swiss francs, went to “Accordion Tribe” by Stefan Schwietert. The “Best Short Film” prize was presented to “Chyenne” by Alexander Meier, with a sum of thirty thousand Swiss francs. The prizes for the categories of “Best Performance in a Leading Role” and “Best Performance in a Supporting Role”, each with a sum of fifteen thousand Swiss francs, were presented to Roeland Wiesnekker and Johanna Bantzer for their roles in the film “Strähl”. The ”Jury Prize”, with a sum of twenty thousand Swiss francs, was awarded to Filip Zumbrunn for lighting and camera in “Strähl”. The prize in the category of “Best Animated Film”, which was awarded for the first time with a sum of thirty thousand Swiss francs, went to Carlo Ippolito’s film, “Un’altra città”.
The prizes were presented in conjunction with the 40th Solothurn Film Festival by Jean-Frédéric Jauslin, director of the Swiss National Library and future director of the Federal Office for Culture; by Armin Walpen, managing director of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idée Suisse); by film director Clemens Klopfenstein (“Die Vogelpredigt”); by Christiane Langenberger, member of the Swiss Council of States; as well as by Esther Gemsch and Massimo Lorenzi, who moderated the ceremonies. Homage was paid to Alain Tanner for his life’s work as a filmmaker by the Federal Department of Home Affairs, represented by David Streiff, director of the Federal Office for Culture. Alain Tanner was presented a prize amounting to thirty thousand Swiss francs. The Swiss Film Prize, the eighth since its inception, is organised by the Federal Office for Culture, in collaboration with SRG SSR idée Suisse, the Locarno International Film Festival, the Nyon documentary film festival “Visions du reel”, the Solothurn Film Festival and Swiss Films.

The jury for the Swiss Film Prize 2005, presided over by Raymond Vouillamoz, program director of Télévision Suisse Romande for many years, was comprised of the following members: Frank Braun, head of “Kino Riffraff” in Zurich and director of the Fantoche Festival, International Festival for Animated Film; film director and scriptwriter Dominique de Rivaz, who lives in Berlin; Giulia Fretta, who is in charge of the production of feature films for television in Ticino; actress Soraya Gomaa, who lives in Germany; producer and CEO of Zodiac Pictures Ltd Lukas Hobi (“Ready, Steady, Charlie”); as well as Thomas Rothschild, literary academic (University of Stuttgart) and film critic. Together with the monetary prize, the directors of the winning films were presented with a trophy—a professional “viewfinder” which can be used in their filmmaking activities.

A summary of the award ceremonies will be broadcast on both TSR 2 (at 11.10 p.m.) and TSI 1 (at 10.40 p.m.). In addition, SF DRS 1 is devoting its program “Kulturplatz” to the award ceremonies and Swiss films at the Solothurn Film Festival with a live broadcast from Solothurn, starting at 10.20 p.m.
