Awarding of the Swiss Film Prize 2006

At the awards ceremony of the Swiss Film Prize 2006, ”Mein Name ist Eugen” by Michael Steiner was selected as the winner of “Best Fiction Film” and awarded a sum of sixty thousand Swiss francs. The prize for “Best Documentary Film”, also with a sum of sixty thousand francs, went to “EXIT, Das Recht zu sterben” by Fernand Melgar. The prize for “Best Short Film” was presented to ”Terra Incognita” by Peter Volkart, with a sum of thirty thousand Swiss francs. The prizes for the categories of “Best Performance in a Supporting Role” and “Best Performance in a Leading Role”, each with a sum of fifteen thousand Swiss francs, were presented to Marthe Keller for her role in the film “Fragile” and to Carlos Leal for his role in the film “Snow White”. The “Jury Prize”, with a sum of twenty thousand Swiss francs, was awarded to Filmkollektiv Zürich for the concept and editing of the film “Klingenhof”.
The prizes were presented in conjunction with the 41st Solothurn Film Festival by Nicolas Bideau, new head of the Film Department at the Federal Office for Culture; by Armin Walpen, managing director of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idée suisse); by actors and previous film prize-winners Delphine Lanza and Mathias Gnädinger, as well as by Jean-Frédéric Jauslin, director of the Federal Office for Culture. This year’s awards ceremony was opened by Federal Councillor Pascal Couchepin with a speech and moderated by Eva Wannenmacher and Massimo Lorenzi. The Swiss Film Prize, the eighth since its inception, is organised by the Federal Office for Culture, in collaboration with SRG SSR idée suisse, the Locarno International Film Festival, the Nyon documentary film festival “Visions du reel”, the Solothurn Film Festival and SWISS FILMS.

The jury for the Swiss Film Prize 2006, presided over by Pietro Scalia, editor and two-time Oscar prize-winner, who grew up in Switzerland, was comprised of the following members: Sévérine Barde, camerawoman; Martin Blaney, journalist at Screen International in Berlin; Hervé Dumont, director of Swiss Film Archive; Ulrike Koch, film director; Alfi Sinniger, producer, Catpics Co-productions; as well as Cristina Trezzini, journalist at TSI. Together with the monetary prize, the directors of the winning films were presented with a trophy—a professional “viewfinder” which can be used in their filmmaking activities.

SRG SSR idée suisse broadcast the awards ceremony nationwide, together with film clips and interviews with the prize-winners: on SF 1, “10 vor 10”, “kulturplatz” at 10.50 p.m., “Kino aktuell” at 11.25 p.m. (special coverage of the Swiss Film Prize), on TSR 2 at 11 p.m. and on TSI 1 at 11.35 p.m.
