Four films produced in the Romandy – one short film and one feature-length fiction film by Box Production, one documentary film by Louise Productions and one short film coproduced by Rita Productions – ranked among the winners at the Festival International du Film Francophone in Namur. The award-winners from Switzerland attended the ceremony to accept the awards personally in the Wallonian capital of Namur on October 5.

The Swiss film productions screened in the various competitions were honoured with awards at the 27th Festival International du Film Francophone in Namur, Belgium (September 28 - October 5, 2012). Camille Cottagnoud travelled to Namur specifically to accept the Bayard d’or for Best Cinematography, endowed with EUR 2,000, for his work in the film “Hiver nomade” (production: Louise Production, Lausanne). In addition, the documentary film “Hiver nomade” was honoured with the Audience Award, endowed with EUR 1,500 Euro. Marie-Elsa Sgualdo’s “On The Beach” (production: Box Production, Lausanne) was presented the Bayard d’or for Best Short Film. The film’s editor Thomas Marchand accepted the award, endowed with EUR 2,500, on behalf of the film’s director. Film director Emmanuelle Antille had presented for her fiction film “Avanti” (Box Production, Lausanne) personally at the festival and returned to Namur for a second time to receive the Prix découverte for Best Film by an Emerging Director, endowed with EUR 1,000. Furthermore, actor Vincent Kohler from La Chaux de Fonds won the Best Actor Award in the Belgian Short Film Competition, endowed with EUR 500, for his role in Sacha Feiner’s Belgian-Swiss film “Un monde meilleur” (coproduction: Rita Productions, Geneva).

Platform for francophone filmmaking

The film festival in Namur attracts over 30,000 visitors every year and is the most important platform worldwide for francophone filmmaking. The festival serves as a meeting point for filmmakers from French-speaking countries in Europe, North America and Africa to exchange information and develop new projects. While the young Genevan Genfer director Hakim Mastour was a member of the festival’s Emile Cantillon jury for the Emerging Directors Competition, Alessandro Marcionni, head of Pardi di domani at the Locarno International Film Festival, was one of the five members of the short film jury.
