Two Swiss documentary films were honoured with awards recently at international festivals: Nicola Bellucci’s “Nel giardino dei suoni” (In The Garden Of Sounds) won the award for Best Documentary Film at the 34th Mostra São Paulo International Film Festival (October 22 - November 4, 2010); and Heidi Specogna’s “Das Schiff des Torjägers” (The Goalgetter's Ship) won the Audience Prize, endowed with EUR 1,000, at the 34th Duisburger Filmwoche (November 1-7). Michaela Müller’s short animation film “Miramare” – a Swiss-Croatian coproduction – was selected as the winner from 36 works in the running for the Grand Prix HAFF European Student Award at the 14th Holland Animation Film Festival (HAFF) in Utrecht (November 3-7).

Just last week the documentary film "Nel giardino dei suoni" (In The Garden Of Sounds) was honoured with the Grand Prize from the three-member jury at the 7th Taiwan International Film Festival. The film, released in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland on October 28, portrays a blind man who works as a music teacher with disabled children (distributor: Cineworx, Basel).

Three specialists in animation film comprised the jury of the European Competition at the Student Film Festival in Utrecht. The jury's statement for "Miramare" is as follows: "This film gave the strong sense that it was made from personal experience. The convergence of the two subjects, camping holiday and the labour of the immigrants, was subtly accomplished. The aesthetical choice enabled an experience in which unbearable lightness was contrasted to a heaviness that lay behind. The jury would very much like to see more work by the artist."
