Two Swiss film productions were honoured in Munich with the “Pierrot,” endowed with EUR 10,000: the Swiss box-office hit “More Than Honey” by Markus Imhoof was honoured as the Best Documentary Film, while the Bernese actress Lisa Brand won the award for Best New Actress for her role in the fiction film “Der Verdingbub.” This marks the 34th edition of the Bavarian Film Award.

The two major box-office hits – Markus Imhoof’s documentary film “More Than Honey” and Markus Imboden’s fiction film “Der Verdingbub” – have each won EUR 10,000 at the 34th edition of the Bavarian Film Award (January 18, 2013).

“Most important film of the year”
“More Than Honey” has already attained tickets sales of 180,000 in Switzerland and leads the list for Swiss documentary films recorded since 1975. The Film Award is a major international tribute. The jury’s statement was as follows: “When the viewers leave the cinema moved, discussing and reflecting, then the film has achieved its objective. The documentary film “More than Honey” manages this with ease – and even more: it […] illustrates the blatant conflict between humans and the environment as a gripping nature drama, […] In short: a documentary film full of lifeblood. […] Ideally, the “most important film of the year” would be added as the tagline. For without bees, we are lost – and without this film, we wouldn’t even know it!”

Lisa Brand – Best New Actress
With 250,000 admissions, “Der Verdingbub” is a second major box-office hit. The 20-year-old actress Lisa Brand (Berteli) was honoured with the Bavarian Film Award for Best Yount Actress. The jury’s statement states that Lisa Brand “gives the young girl Berteli a face that won’t be easily forgotten. […]Lisa Brand portrays the gradual metamorphosis from girl to an anguished young woman with a great deal of sensitivity and naturalness, especially the torment expressed with her eyes. Nothing in her acting appears put-on or forced, leaving the audience hoping for her successful escape to Argentina to the very end, a dream that will unfortunately never come true for Berteli.”
