Berlinale 2013: “Night Train To Lisbon” in Competition programme

The film adaptation of the bestseller “Night Train To Lisbon” will celebrate its world premiere in the Competition programme of the 63rd Berlinale.

The film adaptation of the bestseller “Night Train To Lisbon” will celebrate its world premiere in the Competition programme of the 63rd Berlinale. Moreover, Switzerland is present in all major festival sections: in the Panorama section with Swiss portrait film “Paul Bowles”; in the Berlinale Forum with the world premiere of “Vaters Garten”; and in the Berlinale Shorts competition with the international premiere of “Traumfrau.” The Swiss actress Carla Juri (“Eine wen iig, dr Dällebach Kari») will represent Switzerland in the Shooting Stars event.

Switzerland is present in the Competition of the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival with the screen adaptation of Pascal Mercier’s bestseller “Nachtzug nach Lissabon” (February 7-17, 2013). It will be screened with four films out of competition in the programme, which comprises a total of 24 films. The film by Bille August was coproduced by C-Films in Zurich and brings together such world stars as Jeremy Irons, Mélanie Laurent, Jack Huston, Martina Gedeck, Christopher Lee, Charlotte Rampling and Bruno Ganz.

“Traumfrau,” “Paul Bowles” and “Vaters Garten”

The 19-minute film “Traumfrau” (director: Oliver Schwarz) will celebrate its international premiere in the Berlinale Shorts competition and is thus in the running with 27 for the Golden Bear for Best Short Film. In the film, Schwarz portrays Dirk, who has found the woman of his dreams. Screened in the Panorama section will be “Paul Bowles: The Cage Door Is Always Open” (director: Daniel Young), the portrait of the American composer and author Paul Bowles. The Swiss cineaste Peter Liechti, who created international furore with his last film “The Sound Of Insects,” has been honoured with one of the coveted places in the 43rd International Forum of New Cinema with his most recent film “Vaters Garten ­­– Die Liebe meiner Eltern,” which will also celebrate its world premiere in Berlin. In the film Liechti documents the reencounter with his ageing parents.

“More Than Honey”
The box-office hit “More Than Honey” (180,000 admissions, Bavarian Film Award 2013) will be screened in the German Cinema - LOLA@Berlinale section and thus ranks among the films in the running for a nomination for the German Film Awards.

Swiss Shooting Star
Two Swiss Film Prizes, leading roles in “Eine wen iig, dr Dällebach Kari” and “Feuchtgebiete,” and selected as one of “Europe’s Hottest Young Actors” – Carla Juri’s career has indeed progressed rapidly.
