05.11.2003

Jean-Stéphane Bron’s film “Mais im Bundeshuus” (“Corn in parliament”) sold 51,000 tickets during the first eight weeks of its theatrical release. Eight copies each of the film are currently playing in both the German and French speaking parts of Switzerland. In the French speaking region, the Romandie, the film has reached a remarkable result with almost 20,000 tickets sold.
“Mais im Bundeshuus” (Production: Ciné Manufacture SA, Lausanne) follows the participants in the debate on the law concerning genetic engineering (Gen-Lex) taking place in the Swiss legislature prior to 2001/2002. The result is an intriguing portrait of the political system in Switzerland. The film premiered on the Piazza Grande in Locarno in August 2003 and was released in Swiss movie theatres in mid-September of 2003 (Distributor: Vega Distribution AG, Zurich). It has been shown in 28 cities already, often with the director and politicians present. Numerous students have seen the film as a “Lesson on Swiss Democracy” at specially organized events.
