Canadian “Oscar” for Georges Schwizgebel’s “Romance”
Swiss director Georges Schwizgebel was honoured with the Genie Award in the category of Best Animated Short Film for “Romance” in Toronto on March 8, 2012.

The Academy of the Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT) had to choose from five short animated films in this category. Genie Awards were presented in a total of 22 categories at this 32nd edition of the festival. The Genie Awards are the most awards for Canada’s national cinema.
Schwizgebel’s earlier animation films “Jeu” and “L'homme sans ombre” were nominated in 2006 and 2004, respectively. The ACCT had already presented “L'homme sans ombre” with an award for Best Television Production in 2006.
Since celebrating its premiere last year on the Piazza Grande in Locarno, the film “Romance” has already been screened at 20 festivals and honoured with five awards – most recently as Best Short Film at the “Anima” animation film festival in Brussels 14 days ago. The Swiss-Canadian coproduction is about the dreams of an airplane passenger who has fallen asleep.
