Christoph Schaub, Fanny Bräuning, Hercli Bundi and Bigna Tomschin with world premieres at DOK Leipzig

A total of 14 short and feature-length film productions represent Switzerland’s documentary and animation filmmaking at the 61st edition of the renowned DOK Leipzig, the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (October 29 – November 4, 2018). Four films have been selected for screening in competition programmes, and a total of seven films will premiere in Leipzig. The international festival hits CHRIS THE SWISS, ALL INCLUSIVE and PUTIN’S WITNESSES will also be presented in Leipzig.

Four films have been selected for screening in competition programmes, and a total of seven films will premiere in Leipzig. The international festival hits CHRIS THE SWISS, ALL INCLUSIVE and PUTIN’S WITNESSES will also be presented in Leipzig.

Four feature-length documentary films celebrate their world premieres in Leipzig this year: Christoph Schaub’s ARCHITECTURE OF INFINITY (maximage); Fanny Bräuning’s THE JOURNEY – A STORY OF LOVE (Hugofilm Productions); and Hercli Bundi’s EISENBERGER – ART MUST BE BEAUTIFUL, AS THE FROG SAYS TO THE FLY (Mira Film) in the International Competition; as well as the Swiss-German coproduction A DONKEY CALLED GERONIMO by Bigna Tomschin and Talwar Arjun (Lo-Fi Films) in the German Competition.

Also presented in the International Programme will be Anja Kofmel’s CHRIS THE SWISS (Dschoint Ventschr) which, following its world premiere in Cannes was screened at ANIMAFEST in Zagreb, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, at KVIFF and at Dokufest in Prizren, among others. Nicolas Wadimoff’s THE APOLLO OF GAZA (Akka Films) also continues its festival career in Leipzig with a screening in the International Programme, after having celebrated its premiere as the opening film of Semaine de la critique in Locarno and screenings at FIFF Namur.

#FEMALE PLEASURE and PUTIN’S WITNESSES: award-winning documentaries

Barbara Miller’s #FEMALE PLEASURE (Mons Veneris Films, Das Kollektiv für audiovisuelle Werke), which premiered in the Semaine de la critique in Locarno and was honoured with the Premio Zonta Club Award, will be presented in the Late Harvest section, along with the Latvian-Swiss-Czech coproduction PUTIN’S WITNESSES by Vitaly Mansky (GoldenEggProduction), which was honoured with the Grand Prix for Best Documentary in Karlovy Vary and screened in Toronto at TIFF (TIFF Docs) and in London at BFI (Documentary Competition), among others.

Six short films from Switzerland in Leipzig

Two Swiss documentary films will be screened in the International Short Film Competition: ALL INCLUSIVE by Corina Schwingruber Ilić, which has made a successful start in the international festival circuit with its premiere in the Orizzonti section at the Venice International Film Festival and the selection for TIFF (Short Cuts); as well as SHOOTING CROWS by Christine Hürzeler, which was screened at Visions du Réel in Nyon. Three short animation film productions – ROAR by Owley Samter and Ramòn Arango, MILES AWAY by Barbara Brunner, and SUNDAY by Gael Kyriakidis and Fanny Dreyer – have been selected for the Kids DOK programme, while Milva Stutz’s BAY OF PLENTY celebrates its world premiere in the International Programme.
