After enjoying a great success in Switzerland, the documentary film “Corn in Parliament” by Jean-Stéphane Bron (Production: Cinémanufacture, Lausanne) will be release in French cinemas on November 3 under it’s French title “Le Génie helvétique.” Even before it’s official premiere, two special pre-screenings speak to the film’s high reputation in France: On October 19, “Corn in Parliament” will be shown to members of the French Senate at the Palais de Luxembourg, and on November 2, it will be the opening film at the Centre George Pompidou’s 5th edition of their “Documentary Film Month,” which takes place in the capital of Paris and other French regions throughout the month of November.
This “political thriller” about the Genlex debate in the Swiss Parliament received the 2004 Swiss Film Prize and was shown in the competition section at the in “Cinéma du reel” in Paris, before it received an enthusiastic audience response in July at the film festival in La Rochelle and at the “Rencontres Internationales du Cinéma in Paris.” The French distribution of “Corn in Parliament” with a total of seven copies is organized by “Documentaire sur Grand Ecran,” a distribution company specializing in documentary films. On November 3, the film will premiere at the MK2 Beaubourg movie theatre in Paris as well as in other French cities. The national affiliation of French studio cinemas GNCR supports the film’s distribution and will therefore secure the showings in a significant number of its member cinemas.
