Swiss director Micha Lewinsky’s successful romantic comedy “Die Standesbeamtin” is among the ten European works selected by the film critics of Hollywood’s Variety magazine at the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 2-10, 2010). The festival will screen numerous films coproduced by Swiss firms as well as the Swiss short film “Racines” by Eileen Hofer.

This is the 13th time film critics from "Variety", the international industry magazine, select their ten favourite European films. They will be presented by the magazine and European Film Promotion in Karlovy Vary. The selection of "Die Standesbeamtin" marks the fifth time a Swiss film production has ranked among the Top Ten: in 2007 "Pas douce" by Jeanne Waltz; in 2006 "KussKuss" by Sören Senn; in 2004 "Little Girl Blue" by Anna Luif; and in 2003 "Aime ton père" by Jacob Berger. Micha Lewinsky will present his film personally.

Screened in the festival's competitions will be Cristi Puiu's fiction film "Aurora", a Rumanian-French-Germany-Swiss coproduction (Bord Cadre Films, Geneva) which also ran in Cannes, and Pavel Kostomarov's documentary film "Together" (coproduction: Les Films Hors-Champ). Rounding off the Swiss participation in the spa city in the Czech Republic are the following films: Michelangelo Frammartino's fiction film "Le quattro volte", the Italian-Swiss coproduction by Ventura Film in Ticino which gained a great deal of attention in Cannes; the film "Bang" by the leading actor Pat Marcel from Paris and Basel-based artist TK Kim; and the coproduction "Der Kameramörder" by Robert Adrian Pejo (Cobra Film, Zurich).

The Karlovy Vary International Film festival ranks among the twelve A-category festivals accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAPF). Together with the festival in Moscow, it is the most important festival in Eastern Europe.
