The feature film debut “Silberwald” by 30-year-old Swiss director Christine Repond was honoured with the NDR Director’s Award at the 20th “Filmkunstfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” in Schwerin (May 3-8, 2011). The feature film, produced by Dschoint Ventschr in Zurich, tells of how a group of boys in Emmental struggle with mounting anger which escalates in acts of violence and their attempt to find a release for their aggression by joining a skinhead gang.

This is the 6th time the Director's Award of the "Filmkunstfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommer"n has been presented to a Swiss entry: Stefan Jäger won the award in 2008 for his film "Hello Goodbye" and Oliver Rihs in 2007 for "Schwarze Schafe." Directors Stina Werenfels and Bettina Oberli won the NDR Director's Award in 2006 and 2005, respectively, for their films "Nachbeben" and "Im Nordwind," while "Strähl" by Manuel Flurin Hendry won the Director's Award of the Studios Hamburg in 2004. The main award, "Der fliegende Ochse," went to Denis Rabaglia for his film "Azzurro" in 2001, the first time ever to a Swiss film production.
