With director Rolando Colla winning the Prix EFA in Drama, Greece for his intervention film “Einspruch VI,” Switzerland now has a second film in the running for the European Film Academy Short Film Awards 2012. And with yet another award, this time in Copenhagen, the Swiss-French coproduction “Sister” has excellent prospects for a nomination in the fiction film categories.

The short film “Einspruch VI” was honoured with the Prix EFA of the European Film Academy at the 18th International Short Film Festival in Drama (Greece) on September 22. Rolando Colla’s film, which denounces Switzerland’s deportation practice of asylum-seekers, is thus in the running for the European Film Academy Award in the short film category, which will be presented in Malta on December 1, 2012. This means that for the first time, two of the fifteen short films nominated for the European Film Award this year are from Switzerland: the second nominee is Jan Czarlewski’s film “L'ambassadeur et moi,” which had already won an award at the film festival in Angers last January. The approximately 2600 members of the European Film Academy will receive a DVD with all of the nominated short films in October.

“Sister” wins award in Denmark and in the starting line-up for a nomination
Ursula Meier’s fiction film “Sister” was honoured with the award for Best Film, endowed with EUR 3,000, at the BUSTER Copenhagen International Film Festival for Children and Youth (September 13-23). The leading actor of the film, Kacey Mottet-Klein, also won an award at the same festival: Best Child Actor, endowed with EUR 1,000. The film “Sister,” which is Switzerland’s entry submitted for an Oscar nomination, has gained even more attention in northern Europe, thereby increasing its chances of garnering a nomination for the European Film Award.
