15.01.2009

The 22nd International Festival of Audiovisual Programs (FIPA) in Biarritz (January 20-25, 2009) has granted a remarkable showcase for Swiss film and television productions this year: the fiction film “Brothers” by Igaal Niddam (production: Troubadour Films, Geneva) will be screened in the “Drama” competition, and the artist portrait “Markus Raetz” by Iwan Schumacher (Schumacher & Frey, Zurich) will be presented in the “Creative Documentaries” competition. In addition, the two documentary films “Témoin indésirable” by Juan José Lozano (Intermezzo Films, Geneva) and “21,000 Innocents - Confession des enfants soldats du Libéria” by Klaus Pas (Pasmania, Geneva) will participate in the “Reportage and Current Affairs” competition, while “Vivre le piano” by Joël Louis Jent (production: Aaron Film Egg/ZH) will be screened in the “Performing Arts” competition.
Furthermore, three Swiss film productions will be screened in the “Aspects of European Production” section, which showcases documentary highlights co-produced for television: "Grozny Dreaming” by Fulvio Mariani and Mario Casella (production: Peacock Film, Zurich); “A l'ombre de la montagne” by Danielle Jaeggi (production: Louise Productions, Vevey); and Sarah Perig’s film “Exit aux portes des EMS“, produced by the French Swiss Broadcasting Service (TSR) for the “Temps Présent” programme. The following short films will be presented in the “Short Programs”: “Ich träume nicht auf Deutsch” by Ivana Lalovic, "Monsieur Sélavy“ by Peter Volkart and “Racines” by Eileen Hofer.

Apart from the Festival Cinéma Tous Ecrans in Geneva, FIPA is one of the most important festivals for film and television in Europe. In terms of content and form, it presents an exclusive showcase of outstanding films for the cinema or television, irrespective of their method of production. The festival attracts a great number of professionals in the industry, who will also have the opportunity to discover fourteen other Swiss film productions at the FIPATEL trade fair, which runs parallel to the festival.
