Emmy Nomination for Swiss Cinematographer Peter Indergand

30.08.2004

Swiss cinematographer Peter Indergand has been nominated for one of the renowned and sought-after News and Documentary Emmy Awards bestowed by the US National Television Academy in New York, for his work on the documentary film “War Photographer” by Christian Frei. For the 25th time, the awards recognize outstanding achievement by individuals and programs broadcast during the 2003 calendar year. The News and Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on September 13, 2004, in New York City.
Indergand’s camera skills have left significant marks on numerous films, among them “Sternenberg” by Christoph Schaub – which is currently playing very successfully in the German speaking part of Switzerland – “Across the Border” by Rolando Colla, “Ni olvido ni perdón” (Neither forget nor forgive) by Richard Dindo, and “Heidi” by Markus Imboden. 47-year-old Indergand trained at the American Film Institute, Los Angeles, and has been a freelance cameraperson since 1978. Currently, Indergand is working on the documentary film “The Giant Buddhas” directed by Christian Frei. This film theatrical release is planned for spring 2005. As in Frei’s “Ricardo, Miriam y Fidel” and “War Photographer”, Indergand is the director of cinematography. Director Christian Frei concludes that “without the keen precision of his images, my movie would not be what they are”.

The Oscar-nominated documentary film “War Photographer” is a portrait of New York photographer James Nachtwey on his journey of recording numerous war zones and crises around the globe. It has already received several international prizes.

The nomination of a non-US cameraperson for a national Emmy represents a rare occasion. In addition to Peter Indergand, six additional cinematographers have been nominated in the category of “Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Cinematography.” The National Television Academy awards Emmys for News & Documentary, Sports, Daytime, Creative Craft, Public & Community Service, Technology & Engineering/Advanced Media, and Business & Financial Reporting.
