Christoph Schaub’s successful fiction film “Giulias Verschwinden” (production: T&C Film, Zurich) is on this year’s selection list for the European Film Awards 2010, which was announced by the European Film Academy (EFA) on September 10. A total of 46 European films are up for nominations in the various categories this year. The nominations will be made by the approximately 2,000 members of the European Film Academy over the course of the next two months and announced at the film festival in Seville on November 6. This year’s award ceremony will be held in Tallinn (Estonia) on December 4.

The comedy film "Giulias Verschwinden", based on a screenplay by star author Martin Suter, celebrated its premiere on the Piazza Grande in Locarno in 2009 and was also honoured with the Audience Prize. The film has been a total success in Switzerland (with 195,000 admissions), as well as in Germany and Austria, where ticket sales have amounted to more than a quarter of a million. The ensemble film, starring Corinna Harfouch in the title role and such prominent Swiss actors as Bruno Ganz, Sunnyi Melles, André Jung and Stefan Kurt in main roles, has been proposed for the nomination by the majority of the members of the Swiss Film Academy. In the twenty countries with the most members - one of which is Switzerland - a film can be selected for nomination directly by the members.

The European Film Awards are presented in 16 categories, including the main categories for Best European Film, Bester European Director, Best European Actress, Best European Actor and Best European Script. Swiss filmmaker Peter Liechti was honoured with the Prix ARTE 2009 for Best Documentary Film for his film "The Sound of Insects."
