65 films from the western part of Switzerland, the «Suisse Romande», will be presented at the 2nd FROG, the «Festival du film romand» in Geneva, taking place from June 8-11, 2006. In addition to the documentary film competition with seven productions in the program, a short film competition for all genres will be featured this year. 16 short films will be competing for the «Prix FROG» for best short film, among them the «fantastic» film «Nouvel ordre» by Daniel Schneider, Gregory Bindschedler und Ausonio Tavares De Sousa (ESBA, Genf) and the word-less film «Amancay» by Milagros Mumenthaler (Bordu Films, Genf). Both films will be celebrating their European premiere at FROG, along with the documentary film «Chasseur/Hunter» by Alexandre Charlet (ECAL) and the newest animated film by Claude Barras «Le génie de la boîte de raviolis/The genie in a ravioli tin». Competing for the Prix FROG for best documentary film are, among others, «Les règles du jeu» by Pierre Morath and Nicholas Peart (nva21 SA, Carouge), «Les villageois» by de Raphaëlle Aellig Régnier, and «MIL», the thesis film by Martina Loher-Rodriguez (ESBA, Genf).
FROG is organized by the Geneva institution Fonction:Cinéma, with the goal to strengthen the visibility of western Swiss filmmaking. Jury members are: Chicca Bergonzi (Leopards of Tomorrow, Locarno International Film Festival), Laurent Dutoit (distributor), Carlos Leal (actor), Laurent Nègre (director), and Nathalie Randin (journalist).

«Ryna» by Ruxandra Zenide (Pacific Films and Navarro Films, Geneva) and «La mémoire des autres/Moon on the Snow» by Pilar Anguita-MacKay (Olympia Films, Zurich) are among the four feature film discoveries. Outside of competition, 17 documentary films will be screened, among them «Exit» by Fernand Melgar (Climage, Lausanne), which is this year’s winner of the Swiss Film Prize for Best Documentary, and «Vivement samedi!/Roll on Saturday!» by Emmanuelle de Riedmatten (Le CinéAtelier, Bex). Additional presentations and three open-air showings round out the festival program.

Fonction:Cinéma will be holding a DVD editing workshop on June 10th. Similarly, SWISS FILMS, which is a partner of the festival, organizes a meeting for filmmakers on the same day in order to introduce its promotional support for Swiss films shown abroad (RSVP with SWISS FILMS-Antenne Romande).
