18.05.2010

Five Swiss animation film productions and coproductions will be screened at the 9th International Festival of Animated Film “Anifest” in Treplice, Czech Republic (May 18-23, 2010). The animation film “Wimper” by Marcel Hobi (Fama Film AG, Zurich) will participate in the international competition for films from 5 to 15 minutes, together with the French-Swiss coproduction “Allons-y! Alonzo!” by Camille Moulin-Dupré.

The two films are in the running for the Grand Prize endowed with EUR 2,000. The animation film "Peripheria" by Marcel Barelli will participate in the Student Films Competition. Barelli is a graduate of HEAD, the Geneva University of Art and Design, and had already presented a short animation film last year at the Anifest. In addition, the video clip "Warten" by Tom Hänni will be screened in the Video Clip Competition, and the puppet animation film "Amourette" by Maja Gehrig will be presented in the Panorama programme. Marcel Hobi and Marcel Barelli will both attend the festival in Teplice to present their films personally.

The festival will also host an international conference called "Karel Zeman - Cinema of Wonders" in commemoration of animation filmmaker pioneer Karel Zeman's 100th birthday on May 17-18. Swiss animation filmmaker Rolf Bächler will participate in the conference.

Originally, the Anifest was held in the city of Trebon, located in the south of the Czech Republic. Last year the festival was also held in the university city of Teplice in the northern part of the country. This year's edition will take place in Teplice only.
