Five Swiss animation films at Anima Mundi Festival (Brazil)

08.07.2009

Five Swiss short animation films will be screened at the 17th International Animation Festival of Brazil “Anima Mundi”, which is held in Rio de Janeiro from July 10-19 and in São Paulo from July 20-26. The film “Manfred” by Daniel Zwimpfer will participate in the International Competition. “Die Kinder im Mond” by Ursula Ulmi and “Grosse Pläne” by Irmgard Walthert will both participate in the Children’s Film Competition. All three films were produced at the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU).
Two other animation films from Switzerland will be screened at the Festival Anima Mundi 2009. Claudia Röthlin’s “Me And My Monster” – also from the HSLU – will be screened outside the competition. Presented in the Panorama will be “Tango Lola” by Genevese directors Izabela Rieben and Sami Ben Youssef. Film director Ursula Ulmi will attend the festival in Rio de Janeiro, thanks to support from the film promotion agency SWISS FILMS.

The Anima Mundi Festival, organised by four Brazilian filmmakers, screens both short and feature animation films and has shown a particular interest in Swiss film productions this year. With some 20 sections – 4 of which are competitions – and numerous workshops, forums and special events, it is the most important festival for animation films in Latin America, attracting approximately 80,000 visitors from all over the world.
