Five Swiss short films honoured with international awards

Eileen Hofer’s short fiction film “Racines” was honoured with two awards at the 17th Mediterranean Festival of New Filmmakers in Larissa, Greece (March 30-April 5, 2009); at the same festival Ivana Lalovic also received an Honourable Mention for her film “Ich träume nicht auf Deutsch” from the jury. Alberto Meroni’s “Ombre” was presented the “Incentive Award”, amounting to 200,000 yen (2,200 CHF), at the 4th Akira Kurosawa Memorial Short Film Competition in Tokyo. Reto Caffi’s film “Auf der Strecke”, which was nominated for an Oscar, won the 2nd Jury Prize endowed with 1,500 euros at the 19th International Student Short Film Festival in Cergy-Pontoise, France (April 3-5, 2009). Georges Schwizgebel’s animation film “Retouches” won the Chris Frayne Award for “Best Animated Film”, amounting to 500 US dollars, at the 47th Ann Arbor Film Festival in Michigan USA (March 24-29, 2009).
The 13-member jury in Greece honoured the film “Racines” with two awards: the Silver Horse Award and the award for Best Film Editing (to film editor Valentin Rotelli from Geneva). The film “Racines” and “Ich träume nicht auf Deutsch” both participated in the “Mediterranean Competition”.



The film “Ombre” by Alberto Meroni was among the seven films presented an award by a 4-member jury of the Short Film Competition 2008 in Japan. The award winners were announced at the beginning of April. Meroni’s film competed against nineteen 10-minute films for the award whose theme was “Ten Minutes of Life”.



The jury of the short film festival in Cergy-Pontoise was comprised of three film professionals who had selected “Auf der Strecke” for the “Conseil Général” award.



The film “Retouches” by Georges Schwizgebel tied with the film “The Collection” by Keren Albala as “Best Animated Film” in Austin. The two award winners each received 500 dollars.
