07.11.2008

Five Swiss film productions will be presented at the 23rd Brest European Short Film Festival (November 8-16, 2008). Reto Caffi’s multiple award-winning half-hour film “Auf der Strecke” is one of the 41 films from 15 countries to participate in the festival’s European Competition. Vladimir Jedlicka’s “Fathom” will be competing against 16 other films in the “Cocotte Minute” competition, which features fiction and experimental films under six minutes.
Three animation films, all of which were produced as graduate films at the Lucerne School of Art and Design, will also be screened in Brest: Marina Rosset’s "La main de l’ours“ and “The Bellringer” by Dustin Rees will both be screened in the Animation Film Panorama; Jadwiga Kowalska’s "Tôt ou tard“ will be presented in the Youth Programme.

The festival in Brittany ranks as the second largest short film festival in France after Clermont-Ferrand and recorded approximately 43,000 visitors last year. With a selection of 200 films, the festival has established itself as a festival for discovering young talent, particularly in the genre of short fiction films. In addition, approximately 1,600 short films will be introduced to professionals in the film industry at the film market which runs parallel to the festival.
