Four Swiss documentary films at Buenos Aires festival

06.04.2006

At the 8th Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente (BAFICI), taking place in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires from April 11-23, 2006, four Swiss documentary films will be shown: «Jo Siffert Live Fast – Die Young» by Men Lareida (Production: Hugo Films, Zurich), «Aristide and the Endless Revolution» by Nicolas Rossier, «Face Addict» by Edo Bertoglio (Amka Films, Savosa), and «Maria Bethânia – música é perfume» by Georges Gachot. Zurich resident Gachot will be in attendance at the event, and he is also the Swiss representative at the festival’s European showcase, organized by the European Film Promotion (EFP).
Along with the International Film Festival of Mar del Plata, this event for independent film is one of the most important film festivals in Argentina. In cooperation with the European Film Promotion agencies (EFP), it provides a forum for European filmmaking in particular: Over 60 recent productions from the «old continent» can be seen at the BAFICI this year. In addition, sales of European films at the festival will be supported with up to 5,000 Euro as part of the «Film Sales Support» organized by EFP. In Buenos Aires, Georges Gachot will be looking for a distributor for his music film «Maria Bethânia – música é perfume». The film has already begun successful movie runs in European countries (France, Austria, Spain, and Holland) as well as in Brazil. The odds are in the director’s favor, since his last film about pianist Martha Argerich attracted considerable attention in Argentina.
