“Gambling, Gods and LSD”, the most recent film by Swiss-Canadian Peter Mettler, has along with two other documentary films been nominated for the 2003 Canada Genie Award, a prize comparable to the US Academy Award. It honours outstanding achievements in the Canadian film industry and will be presented for the 23rd time in Toronto, Canada, in February 13, 2003. Mettler’s most recent film has also been invited to numerous festivals and received several prizes in addition to being nominated for the 2003 Swiss Film Prize. For the Swiss-German audiences, “Gambling, Gods, and LSD” will premiere on December 26, 2002. In January 2003, it will be screened at the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival in Saarbruecken and at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
Coinciding with its theatrical release in the German part of Switzerland – in Zurich on December 26, 2002, followed by Basel and Bern on January 9, 2003 – a CD with the original music accompanying the visually strong film will be available, featuring composers such as Fred Frith, Peter Bräker, Dimitri de Perrot, Jim O’Rourke, Henryk Gorecki, Knut&Silvy, and Christian Fennesz, among others.

This three-hour waking dream has already received several prizes this year: the Grand Prix and Prix du Jeune Public at the International Film Festival Visions du réel in Nyon, the 3sat-Documentary Film Prize at the renowned Duisburg Film Week, both a National Film Board Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival and at the Montreal International Film Festival of New Cinema and New Media (all in 2002).
