Host of awards for Swiss films at international festivals

Five Swiss film productions and coproductions were honoured with awards at four major international festivals last weekend.

Five Swiss film productions and coproductions were honoured with awards at four major international festivals last weekend. Two Swiss documentary films came in the jury’s favour at the 53rd DOK Leipzig Festival (October 18-24): “Das Schiff des Torjägers” by Heidi Specogna won the Prize of the Youth Jury of the Filmschule Leipzig; and the International Jury for Documentary Films presented “Goodnight Nobody” by Jacqueline Zünd an Honorary Mention. The medium-length documentary film “Snack-bar Aquário” by Sergio Da Costa won award for Best First Documentary Film endowed with EUR 3,000 at the 8th doclisboa International Documentary Film Festival (October 14-24). The director was in Lisbon to accept the award personally.

Nicolas Steiner's short film "Ich bin's Helmut" was honoured with both the Roger Closset Prize endowed with EUR 1,000 as well as the prize of the International Youth Jury (EUR 200) at the 10th Festival international des ecoles de cinéma (FIDEC) in Huy, Belgium (October 20-24). Finally, the feature film "Le quattro volte" by Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino (coproduction: Ventura Film, Ticino) won the Prix de l'innovation at the 39th Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal (October 13-24).

The short film "Ich bin's Helmut," a German-Swiss coproduction shot in a single 11-minute take, has also been nominated for the German Short Film Award 2010 in the 7-30 minute feature film category. The nomination for this award, which will be presented in Hamburg on November 18, includes a monetary bonus of EUR 15,000.
