“Jeu” short-listed for an Oscar nomination

The Swiss short animation film “Jeu” by Georges Schwizgebel is among the 10 films nominated for the 80th Academy Awards in the category of “Best Animated Short Film”. A panel of experts in Los Angeles and New York judged 35 other films together with “Jeu” in November. In the final round, only 5 of the 10 selected films will be nominated for the 2008 Oscar.
The film launched its career on the Piazza Grande in Locarno in August 2006 and has since met with fame and been honoured with numerous awards at international festivals. The Swiss audience saw the short film in the cinema (in the supporting program of “Das Fräulein” by Andrea Staka, which was seen by 67,000 viewers), as well as in conjunction with this year’s “Short Film Nights” tour.
The nominations for all categories of the Academy Awards will be announced to the public on January 22, 2008. The Oscar ceremonies will be held in Los Angeles on February 24.
