“Kwa Heri Mandima” – Best Documentary Film in Aspen

Robert-Jan Lacombe’s short documentary film “Kwa Heri Mandima” was honoured with an award for Best Documentary Film, amounting to USD 2,500, at the 20th Aspen Shortsfest on April 10, 2011. Lacombe is a student at the ECAL in Lausanne. In addition, Anthony Vouardoux’s short science-fiction film “Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46” received a Special Jury Recognition. Eighty-three works participated in the international competition, including three film productions from Switzerland.
The four-member jury presented "Kwa Heri Mandima" with the award for Best Documentary Film "for its resourceful telling of a deeply personal tale that challenges the traditional documentary style." This marks the third award for the film since its world premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2010, where it won the Leopards of Tomorrow award.
The same jury recognised "Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" especially for "its gut-wrenching, compelling depiction of an astronaut who becomes the last man in the universe."
The film "Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" will be on tour in German-speaking Switzerland in April and May 2011 in conjunction with the Short Film Night, organised by SWISS FILMS.
