All three Swiss short films screened in competition at the Aspen Shortsfest were honoured with awards. “La nuit de l’ours” was selected as Best Animation Film and is thus in the running for an Oscar nomination. The coproduction “Un mundo para Raúl” won the award for Best Student Film and “Kali, le petit vampire” received Special Jury Recognition.

The international jury presented awards to all three works from Switzerland screened at the 22nd Aspen Shortsfest (April 9-14, 2013). The festival is one of the most important platforms for the short film genre in North America.

“La nuit de l’ours” in the running for an Oscar nomination
The animation film “La nuit de l’ours” by Frédéric and Samuel Guillaume, which won the Swiss Film Award 2013, among others, was presented the award for Best Animation Film, endowed with 2,500 dollars. The award qualifies the film for an Oscar nomination in the category of Best Animated Short Film. The jury commended the film as an “astonishing tale of social activism with incredibly rich characters.” At present, “La nuit de l’ours” can be seen in conjunction with the Short Film Night Tour throughout German-speaking Switzerland until June 7.

Best Student Film: “Un mundo para Raúl”
Mauro Müller accepted the award in Aspen for Best Student Film, endowed with 2,000 dollars, for the short fiction film “Un mundo para Raúl” (Eine Welt für Raúl). The jury described the Swiss-American coproduction as “a devastating tale of class, power and the loss of innocence.” This marks the eighth award for “Un mundo para Raúl” since its premiere one year ago.
The film “Kali, le petit vampire” received Special Jury Recognition for its “poignant examination of the outsider using striking animation.”
