The Swiss documentary film most frequently seen in the cinema is “More Than Honey.” With ticket sales of approximately 156,000, it now ranks Number 1, superseding “Mani Matter … .”

Markus Imhoof’s award-winning film about the vanishing of bees has remained among the Top 10 since its release in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland 9 weeks ago. With ticket sales exceeding the notable 150,000-mark, it has now moved ahead of the film “Mani Matter – warum syt dir so truurig?” (2002) by Friedrich Kappeler, which recorded some 145,000 viewers and has led the list for Swiss documentary films since 1975.

2012: successful documentary film year
Swiss documentary films accounted for approximately 450,000 cinema admissions in 2012. Apart from “More Than Honey,” two other films ­– “Die Kinder vom Napf” and “Die Wiesenberger” – have exceeded the 50,000-mark. 

“Das Boot ist voll”
Documentary and fiction films by Markus Imhoof have been successful: his fiction film “Das Boot ist voll” (1981) was nominated for an Oscar and ranks among the 20 most frequently seen Swiss film productions (since 1975), with ticket sales amounting to approximately 160,000.
