“New Swiss Cinema” at the Barbican Centre in London

On the occasion of the “City of London Film Festivals” (June 20-July 10, 2008), this year honouring India and Switzerland as host cities, SWISS FILMS will organize a program entitled “New Swiss Cinéma” in collaboration with the well-known London-based arts centre Barbican. From June 20-22, four fiction films, a documentary as well as an animation film will be screened, all of them still unreleased in England. The blockbuster of 2007 “Late Bloomers” (“Die Herbstzeitlosen”), will mark the beginning of the program in the presence of leading character Stephanie Glaser and director Bettina Oberli.
“That Day” (“1 Journée”) by Jacob Berger, “Out of Bounds” (“Fuori dalle corde”) by Fulvio Bernasconi and “A Parting Shot” (“Pas douce”) by Jeanne Waltz are the English titles of the fiction films of a selection which also encompasses the documentary “Echoes of Home” (“Heimatklänge”) by Stefan Schwietert and the short film “Parallel Parking” (“Le créneau”) by Frédéric Mermoud.
The screening of “Late Bloomers” has been announced as one of the highlights of the “City of London Festivals”, taking place every summer on a yearly basis since 1962. Subsequent to the presentation of the film in the Barbican Centre, a discussion – headed by British film critic and writer Marianne Gray – with Bettina Oberli and Stephanie Glaser will be conducted. After “Die Herbstzeitlosen” (distributor: Walt Disney) could register 600 000 sold tickets in Switzerland, in Germany (X-Verleih) the film, launched with 45 copies, reached almost 300'000 moviegoers. Currently, it continues ist career in Spain (Aquelarre), where since May 9, 34'000 movie tickets have been sold with 16 copies.
