27.01.2010

The Swiss Federal Office of Culture (SFOC) announced the nominations for the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2010» today at the Solothurn Film Festival. Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter opened the “Night of the Nominations“. The «Quartz 2010» will be awarded at a gala event in KKL Luzern on March 6.

After Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter opened the “Night of the Nominations“ with a speech, the nominees and nominated films hoping to be honoured with the Swiss Film Prize this year were announced. The «Quartz» will be presented to the winners at the award ceremony – Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2010» – a gala event organised by SRG SSR idée suisse, in the KKL Luzern on March 6.

Nominations in eight categories

Nominations are made in eight different categories, with five films nominated in the categories of “Best Fiction Film”, “Best Documentary Film” and “Best Short Film” and three nominations in the remaining categories of “Best Screenplay”, “Best Actress”, “Best Actor”, “Best Emerging Actor or Actress” and “Best Film Score”. The funds for the nominations in the category of “Best Film Score”, amounting to CHF 15,000, are provided by the City of Lucerne. The monetary prizes presented to the nominees and nominated films amount to a total of CHF 375,000.

Nomination procedure in collaboration with the Swiss Film Academy

The viewing of the films and submission of nominations was carried out under the auspices of the Swiss Film Academy. Thereafter, recommendations for the nominations were made by the Academy and then selected in a final decision by the nomination committee of the SFOC, comprised of members of the Film Academy.

The nomination committee was appointed in November 2009 and announced to the public on November 24, 2009 (cf. Prelude to the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2010» at: www.news-service.admin.ch/NSBSubscriber/message/de/30309).
