Numerous Swiss animation films at Festival Anima Mundi in Brazil

Seven Swiss short animation films will be screened at the 16th International Animation Festival of Brazil – Anima Mundi 2008. The festival takes place in Rio de Janeiro from July 11-20 and in São Paulo from July 23-27. Three of the seven films will compete in the international competition: “Sainte Barbe” by Cédric Louis and Claude Barras; “Die Seilbahn” (Cable Car) by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun; and “The Bellringer” by Dustin Rees, graduate of the Lucerne School of Art & Design. In addition, Jadwiga Kowalska’s latest work “Tôt ou tard” will participate in the “Short for Children” competition. Jadwiga Kowalska, Claude Barras and Dustin Rees will accompany the films on their journey through Brazil.
The film “What's Next?” by Adrian Flückiger and Claudia Röthlin will be presented in the festival’s “Animation, of Course” section, while Marina Rosset’s “La main de l'ours” and Raymond Höpflinger’s “27 Years” will be screened in the “Panorama” section. These seven films were selected from more than 1,200 submissions to the festival and are evidence of the vitality and artistic diversity of Swiss animation films.
The Anima Mundi Festival, which also features long-playing animation films, is comprised of approximately twenty sections and further supplemented by two competitions for new media (“ANIMA MUNDI Web” and “ANIMA MUNDI Cell”). The festival, organized by four animators, is the largest of its kind in Latin America, attracting about 80,000 visitors every year.
