Fernand Melgar’s award-winning film “La forteresse” will open the 7th “DocLisboa” International Documentary Film Festival, which takes place in Lisbon from October 15-25, 2009. In addition, the films “Hasta la Victoria” by Ticinese directors Chris Guidotti and Matteo Besomi and “Bassidji” by Iranian director Mehran Tamadon, who lives in France (coproduction: Box Productions, Lausanne), will be screened in the international competition. The three films are competing against the other 12 long-playing documentary films in this section and thus in the running for the award for Best Documentary Film, amounting to 15,000 euros.
Furthermore, the two Swiss documentary films – “A l'ombre de la montagne” by Danielle Jaeggi and “Ceux de la colline” by Berni Goldblat – will be screened in the Investigations Competition. Two Swiss short films round off the strong Swiss presence in the Portuguese capital city: Sandra Gomez’s 35-minute film “El futuro es hoy” will be screened in the competition for medium-length films; and “Entretien avec Almiro Vilar da Costa” by Sergio Da Costa in the short film national competition. Sergio Da Costa is from Portugal and is currently studying at HEAD in Geneva. He will attend the festival in Lisbon, together with Berni Goldblat. Goldblat will participate in a panel discussion which addresses today’s challenges of documentary filmmaking.
