”One Long Winter Without Fire” entered for Oscars nominations

22.09.2005

Previously awarded with the 2005 Swiss Film Prize, the feature film “One Long Winter Without Fire” by Greg Zglinski will represent Switzerland in the competition for the 2006 Oscars nominations. The Federal Office of Cultural Affairs entered the film with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, in the category for “Best Foreign Film.” The nominations for the next Annual Academy Awards will be announced on January 31, 2006, while the 78th edition of the Oscars will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California, on March 5, 2006.
Produced by the Lausanne firm CAB Production, the film was chosen by the Federal Office of Cultural Affairs based on the recommendation of a special jury (Film/Advising Commission). The jury justified its decision as follows: “The Film Commission has selected the first-time feature film by Zglinski due to its cinematic breath, universal language, sensitive staging, convincing script, and its cinematography which conveys a terrific picture of our country. In short, the film owes its entry into the Oscars nominations through its great international potential”. “One Long Winter Without Fire” won the Signis Prize and the CinemaAvvenire Prize at last year’s Venice Film Festival. In January 2005, it was awarded with the 2005 Swiss Film Prize for Best Feature Film. The film is currently in the running for nominations for the European Film Award (see Press Release from September 15, 2005).
